The U.S. Supreme Court, in the case of Wards Cove Packing v. Atonia, has significantly changed the ground rules in many future work-related discrimination suits.

The case before the court involved charges by a group of Eskimo and Asian cannery workers who argued that they had been channeled into low-paying jobs while white workers got the more desirable positions. The case eventually reached the highest court, where the judges ruled this week that a lower court had misused statistical evidence.
